Founder's story
It’s painful when your voice isn’t heard.
I know this as when I was younger, I was really shy in certain situations. It was so frustrating knowing what I wanted to say, but struggling to speak out.
I used to get so angry with myself, but the words just wouldn’t come out. My heart would race in anticipation to say something and I’d go bright red, only to find the moment had passed, yet again in the absence of my thoughts, comments and opinions.
How dogs taught me to listen
I think this must have been deeply rooted in my subconscious when choosing my career in PR, as for me, public relations is all about communicating clearly, creatively, consistently and considerately to an audience to build relationships.
I think because I struggled to share what I wanted to say, it cemented my belief that everyone deserves the chance to be heard.
That’s why I founded my communications business Harvey & Hugo – to give people, businesses, and organisations a voice.
A voice amplified through the power of story.
Our stories aren’t just heard. They are read, watched, clicked, shared. This stirring of emotions cuts through the noise to light fires within people, inspiring action and creating impact.
The name of my business comes from my two border terriers, Harvey and Hugo.
It sounds ridiculous to people who don’t have dogs and even some who do, but when they came into my life over 16 years ago, they gave me the confidence to start speaking up and to set-up a business sharing the same values that they did: curiosity, playfulness, authenticity, and loyalty.
My story and values underpin everything we do at Harvey & Hugo to help you build your brand by amplifying your voice.
After all what you have to say might just change the world for the better.
